The company was bought by Seafood Holdings Ltd, the country’s main seafood wholesaler in 2009
H&S Openshaw can lay claim to being one of the oldest companies in the area.
Founded in 1893 by Harold and Sam Openshaw, the firm went on to command an enviable reputation as a premier supplier of high quality fish, poultry and game.
Today the Bolton firm supplies fresh fish and seafood to more than 1,000 hotels, restaurants and other catering outlets throughout the country.
Management stress that if the Bolton depot shuts, there will be opportunities for skilled preparation staff to relocate to other Seafood Holdings sites.
Telesales and field sales staff, some of whom work in Bolton, are unaffected and service to customers will be uninterrupted, the company said. Seafood Holdings is the UK’s leading wholesaler of fresh fish to the food service sector, with a presence at all the country’s major fishing ports.
It supplies hotels, restaurants, pubs and contract caterers through a network of 12 depots across the UK.
